It used to be, back in the day, that the Ale House would become a bit of a clam shack during the summer. We would break out the whole belly clams, steamers, fried cod, bluefish, swordfish. Actually…, that sounds like a bit more than a clam shack. We called it Rick’s Rusty Scupper. Clam Shack on a bender. Add to that all those cold frosties and white wine for you fancy folks and we have the feel good seafood, beach coastal thing going on right in the middle of North Central Massachusetts. We even have an enclosed patio so you can pretend the ocean is just on the other side of that wall.
And it’s aggressively priced! What does that even mean? Aggressively? Should you be frightened? It means we sharpened the pencil. That’s scary too. It means we’re taking it on the chin. You get the deal and we have the pleasure of your company. Where can you get a whole belly clam boat for $19? I know. Right?
My wife gets whole belly clams every summer when we go on vacation and each time she buys them she says “This is the last time, promise.” Hey, it’s vacation, I’ll pop for the $23 whole belly clam boat with 6 clams in it. You won’t have to do that at Moon Hill Brewing though. Fresh Atlantic ocean whole belly clams right here – $19, fries, tartar – boom. Summer 2024. Most of you probably have not had the pleasure of ever even witnessing a $19 clam boat with fries & tartar. You saw those prices 5-6 years ago. Actually, that $23 clam boat was like from summer 2017.
In summary I want to say that summer is a special, even languorous, (what’s with the words Walton?) time of the year. A time when gastronomy, mixology and craft beer can take a front seat while your work is in the savor.
Ah Ciao!
